China-Thailand Coral Reef Monitoring and Early Warning System Program
The program was operated in 2019 as a scientific and technological collaboration between the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), State Oceanic Administration (SOA), People's Republic of China. The program focuses on integrating data from the forecasting system with the data from the measurement on the early assessment on a tendency of coral bleaching.
Objectives
- To investigate effects of climate change on coral ecosystems.
- To develop a coral bleaching warning system.
Expected benefits
- Strengthened capability for early warning with respect to a tendency of coral bleaching in order to provide immediate response on impact mitigation procedure.
- Enhance ability on implementing results from the forecasting system on marine and coastal resources management.
