Ecology of the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand
This sub-project was undertaken since 2012, as part of scientific collaboration between the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), State Oceanic Administration (SOA), People's Republic of China, in order to investigate and compare plant and animal resources in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand for a period of a decade.
Objectives
- To develop knowledge in assessing the status and changes of the ecosystems in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Expected benefits
- An improvement of the database on biodiversity in the Andaman Sea which covers the coasts of the exclusive economic zone of Thailand.
- Improved capacity of relevant experts in marine and coastal ecosystem biodiversity in the Thai water.
- Developed knowledge on interaction between marine and coastal organisms including ecosystem change determination.
