Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia

This sub-project was initiated in 2019 as a scientific collaboration between the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand, and the Third Institute of Oceanography (TIO), Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), People's Republic of China, in order to investigate dynamics of dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and carbonate system in seawater that could affect the marine environment.

Objectives

  • To investigate the situation of Hypoxia and Deoxygenation in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.
  • To examine ocean acidification in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

Expected benefits

  • Knowledge of the occurrence of Hypoxia and Deoxygenation in seawater.
  • Better understanding of physical oceanographic processes that may influence ocean acidification.
