ActivitiesOn February 3, 2025, Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), under the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute, hosted an opening ceremony and tour of the research vessel “R.V. Xiang Yang Hong 01.” The event was attended by Captain Adul Chuthong, Deputy Governor of Phuket Province; Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, serving as the head of the Thai delegation; and Prof. Li Tiengang, Director-General of the First Institute of Oceanography under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, serving as the head of the Chinese delegation. The event welcomed around 100 participants from both government agencies and the private sector.
The research vessel is scheduled to conduct a marine survey in international waters in the eastern Indian Ocean. This occasion provided an excellent opportunity for students, academics, and marine-related agencies to explore research equipment and technologies on board, as well as to witness the progress of marine scientific research between Thailand and China. The event also served as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the People's Republic of China.
