Welcomes Delegation from China's First Institute of Oceanography to Review Progress of Thailand–China Marine Science Cooperation
On 19 June 2026, Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), together with Mr. Ukkrit Satapoomin, Deputy Director-General of DMCR; Ms. Suree Satapoomin, Expert in Marine and Coastal Resources Management; Ms. Sumana Khajornwattanakul, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute; as well as DMCR executives and officials, welcomed Dr. Zexun Wei, Director of the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, and his delegation at Lumpan Meeting Room, 9th Floor, DMCR Headquarters.During the meeting, both parties reviewed the progress of preparations for the 9th China–Southeast Asian Countries Marine Cooperation Forum (CSEA Forum) and received updates on the implementation of Thailand–China cooperation in marine and coastal resources under the bilateral cooperation framework. The collaboration encompasses marine scientific research, marine and coastal conservation and restoration, capacity development, as well as the exchange of knowledge and marine science and technology.The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on future directions for cooperation, with the shared objective of strengthening the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources and further enhancing practical collaboration in marine science between Thailand and the People's Republic of China for mutual benefit.
Jointly organized the event “50th Anniversary of Thailand–China Relations: Joint Efforts for Sustainable Mangrove Conservation”
The Mangrove Resources Research and Development Institute, in collaboration with the Thailand–China Joint Research Operations Center on Climate and Marine Ecosystem and Thungpho Wittaya School, organized the event “50th Anniversary of Thailand–China Diplomatic Relations: Joint Efforts for Sustainable Mangrove Conservation.”On 7 November 2025, the Mangrove Research and Development Institute—through the Division of Cooperation and Innovation and the Mangrove Research and Development Center, Phang Nga —joined with the Thailand–China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem and Thungpho Wittaya School to conduct this special activity under the project “50th Anniversary of Thailand–China Diplomatic Relations: Joint Efforts for Sustainable Mangrove Conservation.”The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Kritchana Nissa, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Office, Phang Nga , who presided over the opening ceremony.The purpose of the event was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China and to launch the Thailand–China Nature Education Center, a new learning hub for mangrove ecosystems established at Thungpho Wittaya School, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province.A total of 210 participants took part in the project, including staff from DMCR, FIO officers, teachers and students, as well as members of coastal community networks in Phang Nga Province.
Joint field trip in the GoT and the Andaman Sea under Coastal Vulnerability Research (CVR) project
On September 12–25, 2025, the Coastal Resources Conservation Division of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) joined researchers from the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), Thailand, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), P.R. China, on a field trip along the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea for field observations and sample collection. This activity is part of the Coastal Vulnerability Research (CVR) project under the Thailand–China collaboration on climate and marine ecosystems, aimed at investigating coastal erosion and marine pollution. The study areas included Rayong, Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces in the Gulf of Thailand, and Phuket and Phang Nga provinces along the Andaman Sea. The outcomes of this study will provide a foundation for developing measures and policies to protect coastal resources in the future.
Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem Deploys Oceanographic and Meteorological Buoys in the Andaman Sea
From February 21–25, 2025, and February 28–March 3, 2025, the Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem, in collaboration with Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) Center and the First Institute of Oceanography of the People's Republic of China, conducted a joint marine research operation in the Andaman Sea. The mission was carried out aboard the Chakratong Tongyai, a deep-sea research vessel operated by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR).The primary objective was to deploy offshore oceanographic buoys to study physical oceanographic processes and monitor weather conditions in the Andaman Sea. This activity is part of the Ocean Forecasting and Marine Disaster Mitigation System of Southeast Asia Seas project.In addition, the team collected seawater samples to monitor microplastic pollution in offshore waters. This operation aims to enhance understanding of deep-sea oceanographic processes, examine the impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems, and support the development of ocean forecasting systems in the future.
Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem, in collaboration with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Hosts Opening Ceremony and Tour of Research Vessel “R.V. Xiang Yang Hong 01”
On February 3, 2025, Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), under the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute, hosted an opening ceremony and tour of the research vessel “R.V. Xiang Yang Hong 01.” The event was attended by Captain Adul Chuthong, Deputy Governor of Phuket Province; Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, serving as the head of the Thai delegation; and Prof. Li Tiengang, Director-General of the First Institute of Oceanography under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, serving as the head of the Chinese delegation. The event welcomed around 100 participants from both government agencies and the private sector.The research vessel is scheduled to conduct a marine survey in international waters in the eastern Indian Ocean. This occasion provided an excellent opportunity for students, academics, and marine-related agencies to explore research equipment and technologies on board, as well as to witness the progress of marine scientific research between Thailand and China. The event also served as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the People's Republic of China.
Training Workshop on Marine Science Investigation and Observation
Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Thailand, in collaboration with the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, and Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem successfully completed a training workshop on Marine Science Investigation and Observation" in Phuket, Thailand, during December 16-19, 2025. The workshop was conducted as part of the project titled "Ocean Forecasting and Marine Disaster Mitigation System for the Southeast Asian Seas."The workshop was attended by participants, including researchers from DMCR, FIO, as well as universities including Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Burapha University (Chanthaburi Campus), and Prince of Songkla University (Phuket Campus). During the workshop, participants received lectures from experts of FIO, Ocean University of China, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, who shared their knowledge, experiences, and valuable insights.Additionally, practical training was conducted on the preparation of oceanographic survey equipment for deep-sea exploration, enhancing participants' hands-on experience in marine surveys. The knowledge and experience gained from this workshop will significantly contribute to advancing marine research in Thailand.
Jointly deploy buoys for meteorological and oceanographic observations in the Andaman Sea
During December 7-10, 2024, Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), Thailand, First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, and Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem jointly conducted a marine operation using R/V Chakratong Tongyai. The mission involved deploying oceanographic and meteorological buoys in the Andaman Sea with the objective of studying oceanographic and meteorological changes as well as monitoring internal waves. This research was conducted under the Monsoon Onset Monitoring and Its Social and Ecosystem Impact (MOMSEI) project. Additionally, the team collected microplastic samples in the Andaman Sea as well as observing offshore marine debris.
Jointly conduct observations of hypoxia in the upper gulf of Thailand
From November 25 to December 4, 2024, Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Upper Gulf of Thailand) in collaboration with Department of Marine Science, Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Technology and Environment at Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, Thailand, and First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, conducted a study on hypoxia in the upper gulf of Thailand with focus on biogeochemical changes in seawater and sediments. This study is a part of a project on the investigation the impacts of human activities and climate change on the loss of dissolved oxygen in coastal waters of the Gulf of Thailand in supports for the Coastal-SOS program under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), funded by the NRCT (Thailand Science Research and Innovation) and Thailand-China collaboration on Climate and Marine Ecosystem.
Thailand-China Joint Laboratory training for COMMUNITY SERVICES OF MANGROVENSERVATION PROGRAM : MANGROVE CULTIVATION TRAINING
Thailand-China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem, in collaboration with the Mangrove Research and Development Institute and the Mangrove Research and Development Center 3, organized a training event to educate 60 students and coastal communities in Phang Nga Province from November 20-21, 2024. The event included lectures, afforestation, waste collection, community exploration, and learning exchanges. This initiative marks the commencement of efforts to promote the conservation of mangrove resources among children and youth.

วันที่ 25 มิถุนายน 2567 ศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งอ่าวไทยฝั่งตะวันออก โดยการสนับสนุนงบประมาณจากศูนย์ปฏิบัติการวิจัยร่วมไทย-จีน ด้านสภาพภูมิอากาศ และระบบนิเวศทางทะเล ได้จัดกิจกรรมทำความสะอาดชายหาด โครงการจัดกิจกรรมจิตอาสาทางทะเล (Blue Citizen) เพื่อเฉลิมฉลองวันมหาสมุทรโลก (World Ocean Day) และการอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรและสิ่งแวดล้อม ตามแนวทางเศรษฐกิจสีน้ำเงิน (Blue Economy) ณ หาดบานชื่น ตำบลไม้รูด อำเภอคลองใหญ่ จังหวัดตราด โดยมี นายสุรศักดิ์ อินทรประเสริฐ นายกองค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลไม้รูดเป็นประธาน มีผู้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรม จำนวน 200 คน ได้แก่ เจ้าหน้าที่องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลไม้รูด เจ้าหน้าที่ศูนย์จัดการพื้นที่คุ้มครองหมู่เกาะมัน จังหวัดระยอง ศูนย์อนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรทางทะเลจังหวัดตราด มูลนิธิเพื่อการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน โรงพยาบาลส่งเสริมสุขภาพตำบลบ้านห้วงโสม ศูนย์อำนวยการรักษาผลประโยชน์ของชาติทางทะเล จังหวัดตราด สถานีตำรวจภูธรไม้รูด หน่วยเฉพาะกิจนาวิกโยธินตราด เครือข่ายภาคประชาชน คณะครูและนักเรียนโรงเรียนบ้านไม้รูด โรงเรียนบ้านคลองมะนาว โรงเรียนบ้านหนองม่วง และโรงเรียนวัดห้วงโสม ขยะที่เก็บได้ทั้งหมด 310 กิโลกรัม และได้สอนวิธีการคัดแยกขยะ ชั่งน้ำหนัก และจดบันทึกข้อมูลตามแบบฟอร์ม ICC card โดยชนิดขยะที่พบมากบริเวณหาดบานชื่น ได้แก่ เศษถุงพลาสติก แก้วน้ำพลาสติก เศษโฟม และขวดแก้ว นอกจากนี้ได้ประชาสัมพันธ์ให้ชุมชนในพื้นที่ตระหนักถึงผลกระทบของขยะทะเล และทิ้งขยะให้ถูกที่ รวมทั้งคัดแยกขยะก่อนทิ้ง เพื่อลดปริมาณขยะที่จะออกสู่ทะเลต่อไป
ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการวิจัยร่วมไทย-จีน ด้านสภาพภูมิอากาศและระบบนิเวศทางทะเล จัดการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ การใช้อากาศยานไร้คนขับ (UAV) ในการสำรวจทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง
ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการวิจัยร่วมไทย-จีน ด้านสภาพภูมิอากาศและระบบนิเวศทางทะเล ร่วมกับศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งทะเลอันดามันตอนบน ได้จัดการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ การใช้อากาศยานไร้คนขับ (Unmanned Aerial Vehicel; UAV) ในการสำรวจทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง ระหว่างวันที่ 29 - 31 มีนาคม 2566 ณ ศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งทะเลอันดามันตอนบน จังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยมีนายสุรพงษ์ บรรจงมณี นักวิชาการประมงชำนาญการ รักษาการผู้อำนวยการศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งทะเลอันดามันตอนบน เป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดการอบรมฯ ในวันที่ 29 มีนาคม 2566 และได้รับเกียรติจาก รศ.ดร. วีระพงศ์ เกิดสิน คณบดีฯ และเจ้าหน้าที่ คณะเทคโนโลยีและสิ่งแวดล้อ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ วิทยาเขตภูเก็ต เป็นวิทยากรการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ ฯ ในครั้งนี้ ผู้เข้าร่วมการฝึกอบรม ประกอบไปด้วยเจ้าหน้าที่ของศูนย์วิจัยต่าง ๆ ซึ่งจะได้รับการพัฒนาศักยภาพ การใช้อากาศยานไร้คนขับในการสำรวจทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งตามภารกิจของกรมทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งต่อไป

วันที่ 14-21 พฤศจิกายน 2565 ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการวิจัยร่วมไทย-จีน ด้านสภาพภูมิอากาศ และระบบนิเวศทางทะเล ร่วมกับศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งอ่าวไทยตอนบนฝั่งตะวันตก และศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งทะเลอันดามันตอนบน ออกสำรวจสภาวะพร่องออกซิเจนในน้ำ และเก็บข้อมูลปัจจัยทางสมุทรศาสตร์เคมีธรณีครอบคลุมพื้นที่อ่าวไทยตอนใน จำนวน 57 สถานี ภายใต้งบประมาณโครงการความร่วมมือระหว่างไทย-จีน ด้านทะเล โดยเรือสำรวจเกษตรศาสตร์ 1 ของคณะประมงมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ทั้งนี้ เพื่อศึกษาการเกิดสภาวะพร่องออกซิเจนในน้ำทะเลพื้นที่อ่าวไทยตอนใน สำหรับเป็นข้อมูลในการติดตามเฝ้าระวัง และหาแนวทางป้องกันผลกระทบที่จะเกิดขึ้นกับทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง

ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการวิจัยร่วมไทย-จีน ด้านสภาพภูมิอากาศและระบบนิเวศทางทะเล โดยโครงการวิจัยเรื่อง “Tropical Marine Ecosystem Collaborative Study (TiME)” โครงการวิจัยย่อย “Coral reef mapping and bleaching” ร่วมกับศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งอ่าวไทยฝั่งตะวันออก ทดสอบเครื่องสำรวจ สภาพพื้นทะเล (Side scan sonar) เพื่อสำรวจระบบนิเวศทางทะเลและขอบเขตแนวปะการัง บริเวณกองหิน ใต้น้ำ ที่หินเพลิง จังหวัดระยอง ประเทศไทย ระหว่างวันที่ 17 - 22 มกราคม 2565 โดยมีเจ้าหน้าที่จาก ศูนย์วิจัยฯ ต่าง ๆ ภายใต้สังกัดสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนาทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง เข้าร่วมสังเกตการณ
