Organized Thailand–China Marine Cooperation Working Group Meeting to Advance Joint Marine Research and Marine Science Collaboration
MeetingOn 10 July 2026, Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), chaired the first 2026 Workshop of the Thailand–China Marine Cooperation Working Group, organized at TK Palace Hotel & Convention, Bangkok. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Suree Satapoomin, Expert in Marine and Coastal Resources Management; Ms. Oruma Janyapiyapong, Director of the International Cooperation Division; members of the working group; and representatives from relevant governmental agencies.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the progress of the Thailand–China marine cooperation framework, including ongoing joint research projects between the two countries, and summarized the outcomes of activities organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China. The meeting also discussed preparations for the 15th Thailand–China Joint Workshop on Marine Science and Technology (Joint Workshop-15) and the 14th Steering Committee Meeting of the Thailand–China Joint Research Center on Climate and Marine Ecosystem (SCM-14).
In addition, participants exchanged views and recommendations on strengthening Thailand–China academic cooperation in marine science. The meeting also established directions for future collaborative activities and planned the next Working Group meeting, with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation in marine science and technology and promoting the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources.
