Conduct Field Surveys in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi to Support Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)

Activities

During 12-17 August 2026, the Marine Resources Conservation Division as a Thai Principal Investigator of the Thailand–China Marine Spatial Planning Collaborative Study, a project under the Thailand–China marine cooperation framework, together with Assoc. Prof. Sak-Anan Platong from Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, and Assoc. Prof. Pongtheera Buapetch from Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, led a research team from the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, in conducting field surveys and data collection on marine and coastal resources in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi provinces.

The activities included mangrove ecosystem surveys, marine field surveys, stakeholder interviews and questionnaire surveys, as well as consultations with relevant local agencies.

The objective of this marine and coastal field survey was to collect information on marine and coastal resources, environmental conditions, and patterns of marine and coastal resource use for analysis to support planning and the development of management approaches for marine and coastal area utilization. The findings will also contribute to advancing Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) under the Thailand–China cooperation framework in the future.
