Organized the 14th Steering Committee Meeting of the Thailand–China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem (SCM-14)

On 23 September 2026, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Thailand, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), People’s Republic of China, jointly hosted the 14th Steering Committee Meeting of the Thailand–China Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem (SCM-14). Ms. Sumana Khajornwattana, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute, served as the Thai co-chair, while Professor QIAO Fangli, Deputy Director-General of the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources, People’s Republic of China, served as the Chinese co-chair.

The meeting reflected the strong partnership and shared vision of Thailand and China in conserving, restoring, and sustainably managing marine and coastal resources. The meeting acknowledged and commended the successful implementation of 10 joint research projects under the Thailand–China cooperation framework, which have contributed valuable scientific knowledge to addressing emerging challenges facing the marine environment. The meeting also considered and advanced four new research proposals aimed at addressing contemporary environmental issues.

In addition, the meeting emphasized continued exchanges of scientific knowledge and technology between the two countries and provided a platform for discussions on strengthening the research capacity of scientists from both Thailand and China, further advancing their long-standing cooperation in marine science and technology.
